We organize all our excursions ourselves. Zorbas beach apartments in Gournes, Crete offers 10 apartments. We are a small family organization and will always make sure to welcome you personally. All apartments are equipped with two rooms: a living room and a bedroom and each has a cozy interior. Each apartment has a kitchenette, including a fridge, double cooking plate, water cooker, plates, cooking utensils, shower and toilet. In the bedroom you will find a spacious building wardrobe. Every room in the apartments have large ventilators against the heat of the summer. Our apartments are suitable for summer and winter holidays. Cots for your baby or infant are available. We offer you the possibility of an international television in your apartment. Some apartments are suitable for 2 persons, others for 3 to 6 persons. Each apartment has its own veranda; some apartments have two verandas.

Zorbas Beach apartments are surrounded by a beautiful garden: You will find lots of trees and flower you wouldn’t normally find at home: olive trees, palm trees, banana trees, orange, lemon and mandarin trees, Bougainville, grapes, flowers etc. Within our garden there is a swimming pool, bar and tavern. We always make sure our swimming pool stays in perfect hygienic condition. The Zorbas garden is particularly suitable for leisure and relaxation. In front of the Zorbas apartments runs a small river, though for most of the summer, it is dry. Bamboo grows mainly in the riverbed, as well as other Greek herbs. Many Greeks pick herbs from our river and if you are lucky, you will see sheep passing through in the early morning. We also have a pool-billiard table, darts and other games available in our garden.

Cleaning in the apartments: your apartment will be cleaned twice a week, including the change of bed linen and towels. In each apartment we supply a set of cleaning utilities. If you wish, we can also clean your apartment daily. It is also possible to make use of our laundry service, you will receive your clothes fresh and ironed within 24 hours. You will find a basket in your apartment for our laundry service.

Transfer to Zorbas apartments from the airport of Heraklion: We are able to offer you transportation upon arrival or departure from Heraklion Airport, Crete. Arrival to Zorbas Beach: upon arrival at Zorbas beach, we will be more than happy to take you on a small tour around the area of Zorbas Beach. Public transportation on Crete, Greece: you will find a bus stop within walking distance from Zorbas Beach. Public transportation on Crete is very affordable and an interesting way to explore the island of Crete. Every half-hour you can take the public bus towards Heraklion, Kokkini Hani, Amnissos, Kato Gouves, Analipsi, Chersonissos, Stalida, Malia, Neapoli, Agios Nikolaos and Sitia. You can buy your ticket on the bus, but in the bigger cities like Heraklion, Agios Nikolaos, Sitia, Rethimnon and Chania you must buy your ticket at the bus station.

Shopping on Crete, Greece: the shops in Crete are open from Monday until Saturday from 9.00 AM until 2.00 PM. On Tuesday, Thursday and Friday shops are also open in the evening from 5.00 PM until 9.00 PM. In the tourist resorts, most shops are open all day, 7 days a week. Every Saturday you can visit the Gypsy market in Heraklion.

Culture on Crete: if you plan an excursion on Crete, it is worthwhile to visit the local kafenions (coffeehouses) and taverns, where the local Cretans eat and drink! It is almost always cheaper and you have a more local experience. Outside of the tourist resort you will find many old Greek taverns and kafenions. A Kafenion is a Greek coffeehouse where (mostly) elderly men meet to drink coffee, play tafli (backgammon), discus politics and weather. Every village on Crete has a local Kafenion. Feel free to enjoy a Greek coffee there and most of the time you will be the only tourist. If you have dinner in a Cretan tavern or restaurant, you can order the local house wine in a carafe. The local wines are, most of the time, quite delicious.

Greece is a very child friendly country and children will always receive lots of attention. The safety and care of Cretan children come before anything else in Greece. Local children will learn Cretan dances from a very young age. It will surprise you how many children are able to dance a typical Cretan dance. Dancing is a very important part of typical Cretan culture. The “lira” is the favorite instrument on Crete. The “lira” is a kind of violin, which makes a beautiful sound.
