Family apartments for parents with children We have a number of larger family holiday apartments in Crete. There are possibilities for both summer and winter; the apartments have two verandas and are ideal for a family holiday in Crete. Infant car seat in Crete: it is often asked if we have this available, and the answer is yes. Children’s car seat (car rental in Crete): when people rent a car at Zorbas, we can always arrange a child seat in your car, no problem. Even for your rented bicycle we can provide you with infant seats. We also offer great routes for you to drive with your family; we know routes in Crete that will not be boring for anybody.

Mosquitoes in Crete: Your child can enjoy a mosquito free vacation. We have anti-mosquito plugs available if you would like; they are also available including at the supermarket which is in walking distance from Zorbas apartments). It is important to watch out for mosquitoes, especially with children.

Sunbathing in Crete: keep an eye out for your children during a stay in Crete with swimming, sun and sea. Good sunscreen products are very important. Buy a waterproof sunscreen for your children so you don’t have to keep applying after each swim. Spring and autumn are very treacherous for sunburns.

Children's bed: at Zorbas we can provide various children’s beds, including cribs for infants. We would appreciate it if you could indicate in advance that you will need a children’s bed.

Heat in Crete: Our apartments at Zorbas’ accommodation are cool in summer and warm in winter. Zorbas Gournes has good insulation, so you will not have any problem in summer or in winter! Each apartment also has a large ceiling fan. It is better to use a ceiling fan during your vacation. It provides a natural coolness, and it also chases away the mosquitoes (air conditioning available on request).

Water City in Crete: at a distance of 15 minutes is one of Europe's largest water parks. This is a fun trip; we take care of the tickets in advance for you, and you will be picked up and brought back. Here you will find everything, from a kiddie pool with shallow water to hundreds of meters of water slides. The Water City water park in Crete: here you can really stay all day, because children will not be bored, and neither will the parents.

Medical care for children in Crete: In each apartment is a list that shows where medical information can be obtained 24 hours a day. Medical assistance in Crete is high quality. There are several medical centers, and Dutch is also spoken. It is nice that if you need medical help, it is available in your own language.

There are enough games for children at Zorbas apartments. We organize treasure hunts regularly for the little ones. The kids from 4 years old often rave about a jeep safari in Crete, especially if they can bring along their water gun.

TV in Crete: We offer limited TV. We can provide you with English TV; if you would like this please let us know well ahead of your vacation to Crete.

For children we have our special fruit cocktails and various ice creams at Zorbas apartments. Children can never leave the premises by themselves without being noticed.

Zorbas scavenger hunt Crete: we organize for our guests a fun scavenger hunt in Crete. Every 10 minutes we drive away from the property in cars. Everybody has the same questions to answer; the cars keep passing each other during the day. We will enjoy a lunch in Southern Crete, where everyone meets up again in the afternoon. We continue the scavenger hunt while driving back to our accommodation, and in the evening we will have an award ceremony. This tour is very popular in the children's season.

Scooter tour in Crete: you can go with us on a scooter tour of Crete, but we also have several routes you can drive by yourself if you like.

Weekly excursions in Crete with kids:

Monday excursion with children: boat tour with speedboats to Dia or Sisi. We will leave from the port of Gournes. One week we will organize a speedboat tour to Dia Island and the other week we will head to the old fishing village of Sisi. Dolphins in Crete: we can’t guarantee that we will see dolphins in Crete, but last summer it still happened three times. One time the dolphins swam around the boat; a magnificent spectacle. Between Dia and Paximadi it is more likely that dolphins are observed. It is no coincidence that the ancient Greeks made murals of dolphins in the palace of Knossos. Every time we see flying fish, we see dolphins later in the day.

Monday: Beach Party: Beach afternoon in Gournes on a secluded sandy beach with snorkeling lessons and beach soccer, barbecue, Greek music, etc.

Tuesday cooking class for young and old: a one day Greek cooking class for anyone interested in the Greek and Cretan cuisine. We also organize cooking classes for children. There are possibilities for a 3-, 5- or 8-day cooking course in Crete. On Monday night we organize a Souvla-evening, this is a traditional way of smoking and grilling meat.

Wednesday hiking with children: Walking tour "Milos". A new 12 km hike through the unspoiled nature of Crete. This walking tour is varied by villages and natural beauty. At the end of the tour we will pass through a turtle sanctuary. A longer hike of 22 kilometers is also possible (on request). Multiple-day hikes in Crete: heavy hiking (50 km). Two days of hiking in Crete: we offer you a walk on the ancient Greek donkey paths; this hike is 50 km. You will overnight in the outdoors. We also have a walking tour from South to North Crete in 5 days; this tour is our hiking week in Crete: a hiking tour in Crete in 5 days over a distance of 120 kilometers. Ask for overnight hiking trips in Crete. Wednesday evenings we organize a Greek Meze night; these are 15 different Greek dishes.

Wednesday: Ecopark Lasinthos Agrotourism Crete: a visit to the most beautiful ecological park of Crete. We combine the visit to the park with a short walk on the plateau of Lassithi. In the ecological park you can see many traditional crafts, such as wood carving in Crete, pottery in Crete, raki factory with distillation of raki, honey making, weaving, gallery with old photos of Crete's most famous crafts, wax factory (candles), and a herb loft with all natural herbs that appear on Crete. There is also a farm with all animals you could encounter in Crete. This tour includes transfer, lunch and coffee in the courtyard of the Eco Park. We also offer opportunities to overnight here.

In the evening you can enjoy our Greek meze evening with 15 home cooked Greek dishes (included in the price with half board). Our Greek meze night: on this evening you are introduced to Greek cuisine. A meze buffet means a nice long evening at the table and enjoying the Greek cuisine. The meze buffet is served in the garden of Zorbas, where you will also enjoy Greek music (rebetiko) out in the open. We also offer a variety of Greek wines this evening.

Thursday snorkeling with children: snorkeling tour by boat; we will visit nice beaches where we will go snorkeling. In the morning you will get a snorkeling lesson from a professional diving instructor. After the snorkeling lesson we will make a snorkel tour of one hour, and then the boat will set sail to a deserted beach, only accessible by boat. There we will organize a barbecue, and you can do some more swimming and snorkeling. This tour is suitable for everyone, also people who just want to go for the boat ride can come along.

Thursday: Potters Walk: a tour of a Greek village in central Crete. You will get an extensive explanation about the nature and culture of Crete. Along the way we will visit an old monastery. The total distance of this walk is 5 km. In the afternoon we will go to a Greek potter. Here you will learn clay modeling. You can make your own creation (e.g. a vase, bowl or candlestick) and take it home after. The children can do unlimited crafts and clay modeling at a long table. This tour includes transfer and BBQ lunch.

Friday Jeep safari with children: jeep safari tour. A jeep safari through beautiful Cretan villages and landscapes. Discover exciting Crete in places you would never find by yourself. This adventurous jeep safari adventure is an unforgettable day for young and old.

Buggy safari with children: we will leave at 09.00 am after breakfast, to visit the center of Crete with a group of buggies. We will be driving off-road most of the day. We will stop for a coffee around 10.30-11.00 am in an old Greek kafenion (Greek coffee house). After coffee we will continue exploring off-road Crete. You can expect a lot of adventure and culture today, and we expect to see many beautiful Greek villages in the mountains. Around 13.00 pm we will have lunch in the lovely village of Kastraki. After the lunch we will continue our tour through the mountains, and we will be back around 17.00 pm at our starting spot, where you can enjoy a drink and a refreshing dip in the pool. Nothing is nicer after a long jeep safari than having a drink and rinsing off the dust with a swim.

Saturday at Zorbas: diving for children: a free trial dive in the Zorbas pool with complete diving gear. Every Saturday on request we organize a diving afternoon at Zorbas; suitable for anyone who would like to experience what it's like to make a dive. Diving in Crete: we offer opportunities for a one day diving course in the sea with an instructor. You'll get theory and practice in one day. We also offer many opportunities for experienced divers. Combinations of holiday accommodation and diving are also possible: PADI Open Water, PADI Advanced Diver, and Rescue Diver.

We offer opportunities to make a trial dive in the pool at Zorbas Beach. This trial dive is free! If you like it then you can book a diving trip. For experienced divers we have a dive package for diving at 8 different locations in Crete.

Saturday in Crete: an excursion into undiscovered Central Crete. During this village walk through uncharted Crete you can see how the shepherds make bells, grow herbs, and how life used to be in Crete. We will visit a traditional Cretan house in a beautiful environment that you will not soon forget.

Saturday evening at Zorbas Crete we will organize a traditional Greek barbecue, sometimes also with live music. Included with half board accommodation.

Bicycle Tour in Crete: a tour through the plateau of Lassithi in Crete. This tour is suitable for everybody. Enjoy the beautiful mountain scenery around you on your mountain bike. You will ride on a mountain plateau, so there is not a lot of steep climbing peddling. Transportation, helmets, bicycles, lunch and your guide are included in the charges.
