Every Christmas holiday we organize new activities. The complete program for Christmas at Zorbas Beach is not obligatory; we organize it to also for our own enjoyment! This is why a number of our Zorbas friends receive this invitation. For the price you do not have to leave it be; the only problem is sometimes the airplane tickets! It is often difficult to find a direct flight to Heraklion for a reasonable price. A good alternative is to fly via Athens. There are daily flights! Check out our links sometime to find a cheap ticket. The weather is hard to predict: it can be absolutely beautiful, but sometimes the weather can be a little dodgy. We ensure in any case that a heater is present in each apartment! Daytime can be nice and warm sometimes, but keep in mind that the evenings may be chilly. So bring a variety of clothes for a great Christmas on Crete.

Christmas program in Crete: activities and excursions, including New Year Program: Christmas in Crete, Greece: This year again we will organize many activities for Christmas and New Year. Following the success of recent years, we have organized some new activities for you again. All activities are optional. If you already know in what activities you would like to participate, please let us know beforehand. The program is subject to change; sometimes we have to move an excursion to another day. If there are excursions that you are interested in which are not on the program, please let us know in advance.

15 December: breakfast from 08.30 am until 11.30 am. Dinner from 20.00 pm. Undiscovered Crete: We will leave at 10.00 am for an oil and wine museum. While visiting this museum you can learn about the history of making olive oil and Cretan wines. We will also visit an olive oil factory, where you can buy olive oil at an affordable price. We will drive through the wine country of Crete where you will get acquainted with the locals. We will stop in many small villages; this tour is about 100 km. On the way back we will stop at a nice Greek kafenion. We will be back at the accommodation around 16.00 pm.

16 December: breakfast from 08.30 am until 11.30 am. Dinner from 20.00 pm: Mountain Villages (easy) hike: Come with us and experience a day to remember. Get acquainted with biologic agriculture, nature in accordance with ancient Greek mythology, homeopathy and the widespread use of herbs. Enjoy a hearty Cretan meal, which is traditionally prepared in the charcoal oven.

17 December: breakfast from 08.30 am until 11.30 am. Dinner from 20.00 pm: Visit to the Christmas market in Heraklion. We will leave at 17.00 pm. In the evening we will visit a raki distillery. At the raki factory we will grill meat and learn how raki is made. Of course you can also taste some raki! While visiting the raki factory you can enjoy live Cretan music. We will arrive back at the accommodation around midnight.

18 December: breakfast from 08.30 am until 11.30 am. Dinner from 20.00 pm: Ecological day in Crete: a visit to an old crafts market. We will show you old Cretan crafts: a pottery, woodcarving, raki distillery and a wine tasting room. Learn more about the traditional Greek cuisine, a Cretan herb loft, wax candle factory, beekeeper and honey. You can also visit a Cretan farm with various animals and drink coffee on a Greek village square.

19 December: breakfast from 08.30 am until 11.30 am. Dinner from 20.00 pm: hiking in Crete in the winter, turtles in Crete. Breakfast from 08.00 to 11.00 am. Dinner from 20.00 pm. Rivers Tour: This is a hike of 16 km. En route we will visit a traditional Greek Kafenion. Unspoiled natural beauty in central Crete. This area is known for the many turtles that live here. This hike is suitable for everyone. We will walk through beautiful countryside during this excursion.

20 December: breakfast from 08.30 am until 11.30 am. Dinner from 20.00 pm: Rivers Tour: This is a hike of 16 km. En route we will visit a traditional Greek Kafenion. This hike is suitable for everyone. We will walk through beautiful countryside during this excursion. Registration is required.

21 December: breakfast from 08.30 am until 11.30 am. Dinner from 20.00 pm: Centuries old culture: after a short walk through an old village including a visit to a convent, we will go to a pottery, where you will experience the history of this still important craft. You yourself can make a beautiful creation with clay, which you can take home or have it sent to you. During this workshop you will be offered a delicious meal.

22 December: breakfast from 08.30 am until 11.30 am. Dinner from 20.30 pm. Greek cooking lessons in Crete: we offer these workshops throughout the year. This is a day where you can experience the Greek cuisine; we will teach you the basics of cooking in olive oil, Greek spices, and meat and vegetable dishes. We will also teach you how to make authentic Greek dishes in a stone oven.

23 December: breakfast from 08.30 am until 11.30 am. Dinner from 20.00 pm. Bike tour Gournes - Trial - Galipa - Galifa: We offer possibilities for shorter or longer bike rides. Culture and puzzle tour: a puzzle tour that we have created for you to see a lot of Crete. During this puzzle tour you will drive from North to South Crete. An excursion by car along the scenic back roads of Crete. Boat trip to Dia Island: with a speedboat we will go to the island of Dia. We will be at sea the whole day and visit the nature reserve of Dia Island.

24 December: breakfast from 08.30 am until 11.30 am. Dinner from 20.00 pm. Mountain Villages (easy) walk: Come with us and have a day to remember. December 25: Christmas breakfast from 09.30 till 11.00 am. Dinner from 17.00 pm. You are welcome from 16.00 pm for a Christmas aperitif: First Christmas day in Crete. In the morning you can enjoy a delicious Christmas breakfast. Our Christmas dinner consists of many choices of Greek Christmas dishes, delicious oven- and grill dishes, and for vegetarians we offer a wide variety of dishes as well. Registration is required. The bar and tavern are closed between 12.00 and 16.00 pm, this is due to the preparations for the Christmas dinner. You can also use this day to make a lovely walk along the beach. If you follow the beach road, you will reach a bird reserve after 6 km. Many birds spend the winter in Crete.

26 December: breakfast from 08.30 am until 11.30 am. Dinner from 20.00 pm. Christmas hike: During this hike you will walk through the beautiful countryside and we will visit an impressive cave! Pano Gouves - Koxari - Skotino - Skotino cave Gournes Pediados. We will leave at 12.00 pm

27 December: breakfast from 08.30 am until 11.30 am. Dinner from 20.30 pm. Christmas jeep safari in Crete: a jeep tour to the top of the Dikti Mountain; with some luck there will be snow at 2000 meters. The weather can be nice in Gournes, but today we must keep in mind that it can be cold at the top of the mountains. In the lower situated villages we will not be bothered by this. Your Jeep top can open, but you can always close the cover along the way. We will be in parts of Crete that you would normally never find if you were by yourself.

28 December: breakfast from 08.30 am until 11.30 am. Dinner from 20.30 am. Cooking and grilling with our guest: Start 13.30 pm. Greek cooking afternoon on location. If you have a request for a certain dish you have eaten this week, we will show you how it is prepared. We will cook this afternoon in the mountains at a nice little church. Registration is required.

29 December: breakfast from 08.30 am until 11.30 am. Dinner from 20.00 pm. Diving in Crete in the winter. For those who dive frequently, we organize a nice dive in the winter in Crete. For those who have never dived and would like to try it for once, we organize a dive instruction lesson. Registration is required. Centuries old culture day: after a short walk through an old village with a visit to a monastery we will visit a pottery farm, where you will experience the history of this still important craft. You yourself can make a beautiful creation with clay, which you can take home or have it sent to you. During this workshop you will be offered a delicious meal.

30 December: breakfast from 08.30 am until 11.30 am. Dinner from 20.00 pm. By day a cultural tour with a private van, to undiscovered Crete. We will visit many villages where we will hike and walk through the charming streets, and we will visit a raki distillery. Registration is required.

31 December in Crete: breakfast from 08.30 am to 11.30 am. Visit to market in Heraklion. Departure: 10.00 am. This is the big market in Alikarnassos, Heraklion, Crete. Registration is required. Dinner from 19.30 pm. Welcome from 18.00 pm. Today the bar is closed between 12.00 and 18.00 pm. We will use this time to get everything ready for the New Year celebration. New Years Eve in Crete: we provide a nice barbecue party from 19.30 pm. At midnight there will be New Year’s fireworks and a bonfire. It’s an evening not to be missed in Crete. If you would like to go for an excursion during the day, we will gladly help you on your way. Registration is required.

January 1: breakfast from 10.00 am until 12.00 am. New Year's happy hour at 19.00 pm. New Years’ dive: each year we make a traditional New Year’s dive in the sea at the beach of Gournes. We serve a variety of evening meals that have been prepared in a stone oven.

January 2: breakfast from 08.30 am to 12.00 pm. Dinner from 20.00 pm. Rivers trip: this is a hike of 10-12 km. On the way we will visit a traditional Greek Kafenion. This hike is suitable for everyone. During this river trip we will walk through the beautiful countryside. Registration is required.

January 3: breakfast from 08.30 am until 11.30 am. Dinner from 20.00 pm. Unknown Crete: We will leave at 10.00 am for an olive oil and wine museum. January 4: breakfast from 08.30 am until 11.30 am. Dinner from 20.00 pm. Day of centuries old culture: after a short walk through an old village including a visit to a convent we will go to a pottery form, where you will experience the history of this still important craft. You yourself can make a beautiful creation with clay, which you can take home or have it sent to you. During this workshop you will be offered a delicious meal.

January 5: breakfast from 08.30 am until 11.30 am. Dinner from 20.00 pm. Two-day winter safari in Crete: 450 km over the most beautiful paths and olive groves of Crete, many sights, a lot of adventure and Greek culture, mountains and sea. During this two day jeep safari we will drive through South, Central and Eastern Crete. We will stay in Mirthos for a night and we will come back on Monday. Registration is required.
