A week day on Crete: The sun is early in the sky and everybody is looking forward to another day outdoors. It is summer and high season in Greece and the holidaymakers on Crete are eager to do something fun. But not everybody wants to do the same, so we made a program with great variety. Today the program is as follows: a hike in the mountains, a cooking workshop, archery and a snorkelling lesson in the swimming pool at Zorbas Island. 

Different activities

Hike in the mountains of Crete: get away from the crowds. It is hard to imagine, but just a few kilometres away from Zorbas Island is a beautiful mountain landscape where hardly any people come. 

Cooking workshop Greek cooking: so nice all those delicious dishes that are served every evening on the dinner buffet. But what is for example that ingredient that makes tzatziki so tasty? These are the secrets of the Greek cuisine, which we explain during the cooking workshop. And you return home with that perfect recipe for tzatziki. 

Archery in the Zorbas Island garden: did you ever try to shoot with a professional bow arrows at a target? It looks so easy, but it certainly is not. Under professional guidance, children and adults can attempt to shoot the target. 

Snorkelling lesson: this week there is a snorkelling excursion on the program, but not everyone knows what it is like to snorkel. Therefore we give a snorkelling lesson in the pool at Zorbas Island. 

Summer holiday on Crete: In July in Greece you can spend also the evening outside, since the temperature at night is very pleasant. Outdoor dining on Zorbas Island’s terrace and enjoying the beautiful view are part of your summer holiday in Greece.

At the village Kounavi there is a three aisled Byzantine church dedicated to the Transfiguration of Christ, Saint Nicholas and Saint Demetrius, which is the central church of the village, but not the patron saint. This temple is unique as it has five domes, one large in the center and four smaller around it. According to tradition it was built by five unmarried sisters.

The Old Venetian Bridge of Preveli is a historic 18th-century stone arch bridge located near the Kato (Lower) Preveli Monastery in southern Crete, spanning the Megalopotamos River (Great River).
