Painting workshop on Crete, Greece: from 26 to 30 May 2025, we will organise a special 5-day painting workshop open to all, with or without painting experience.
During this workshop, we will create different paintings: intuitive portraits, nature and villages. There will be sketching with charcoal and painting with acrylic paint. And this special workshop will be given by artist Lies Apon.
At the end of the week, there will be an exhibition of Lies’ work at cafe bar Dali in Anopolis. Of course, all participants are welcome to visit here.
It will be a week full of cultural Crete and nature visiting the real bits of Crete with some painting workshops in our own olive grove.
Programme
Sunday (or before): arrival participants, with late afternoon briefing on the week’s planning.
Monday (10-15h): we start with a cup of Greek coffee or mountain tea and Greek sweets in the olive field. And then participants will learn intuitive portrait sketching with charcoal. This is mainly also meant to loosen up and free yourself. So you get to work outside the lines.
There are plenty of shady places in the olive field to sit.
In the afternoon we will have lunch in the olive field. Around 3pm, we conclude the workshop and return to the accommodation.
Tuesday (10-15am): after a cup of coffee and/or tea, we start painting on location. Today we will paint on special paper. After lunch, we return to Zorbas.
Wednesday (9.30-15am): today’s programme includes an excursion Unknown Crete dedicated to El Greco.
Domenikos Theotokopoulos (1561-1614) was a Cretan painter known as El Greco (a Spanish corruption of the Italian “Il Greco”, “The Greek”). He worked mainly in Spain and painted mostly religious works and portraits.
We visit El Greco’s museum in Fodele (his birthplace). We also visit a number of other places of interest (monastery, churches, rural villages, etc.).
Along the way, we have lunch somewhere.
Thursday (10-15am): Today we will paint in a Greek mountain village.
Friday (10-15am): we start the day with the final workshop. After lunch there will be an exhibition at Zorbas of the work of all participants.
The stay is at Zorbas Island in Kokkini Hani on the north coast of Crete.
